Founded in 1833 after Saint Rose of Lima. In 1911, the first official AirMail flight in North America was completed from Petaluma to Santa Rosa. Today Santa Rosa has grown to the largest city in Sonoma County (and the 5th largest city in the Bay Area), with a population of 180,000. Santa Rosa is the “City Designed for Living,” an a “Hub of American Cycling,” Like much of the reason, Santa Rosa enjoys a warm summer mediterranean climate, with wet winters and dry summers. Downtown Santa Rosa, including the central Old Courthouse Square and historic Railroad Square, is an area of shopping, restaurants, nightclubs, and theaters. Downtown also includes City Hall, state and federal office buildings, many banks, and professional offices. Local Attractions include Redwood Empire Ice Arena ("Snoopy's Home Ice"), Safari West wildlife preserve (with over 1,000 animals of approximately 98 animal species), Sonoma County Museum, Trione-Annadel State Park, Spring Lake Regional Park historical tours, museums, Art District and Luther Burbank Home & Garden and Center for the Arts
